How to become a real estate agent in Mexico – The steps you need to follow
1. How to become a real estate agent in Mexico – Getting your work permit and temporary or permanent residency
If you’re wondering how to become a real estate agent in Mexico, the first step to follow is to get temporary or a permanent residency with a work permit. What I would suggest is to visit Mexico with a tourist visa and approach real estate agencies like I did when I arrived in Playa del Carmen. Once you find an agency that you like you’ll have to pass a series of interviews during which the hiring managers will have a look at your selling skills, Spanish level, soft skills such as negotiation and communication and what kind of past experience you have as a real estate agent.
Then once they agree to hire you, you’ll need to start the process to get a temporary residency through a work permit.
If you’re wondering how to become a real estate agent in Mexico, it’s essential to understand the process of obtaining a temporary resident visa with a work permit, which allows you to legally engage in paid activities in the country.
To begin the journey of becoming a real estate agent in Mexico, a temporary resident visa with a work permit is your starting point. This visa grants you entry into Mexico and permits you to undertake paid activities during your stay.
However, it’s important to note that the application for temporary resident visas with work permits must be initiated by your prospective employer in Mexico, who must be registered with the National Migration Institute (INM). As an individual, you cannot directly apply for a work visa.
Once your employer has submitted the request and obtained a Unique Processing Number (NUT) from the INM, you, as the applicant, will need to proceed with the consular interview. If this interview is successful, you will be granted a temporary resident visa with a work permit.
This visa is typically valid for six months and provides for a single entry into Mexico. Once you arrive in Mexico, it is crucial to present your visa to the National Migration Institute (INM) within the first 30 days of your arrival. This step is necessary to receive a Temporary Resident Card, which will enable you to stay in Mexico for an extended period, typically up to four years, depending on the terms of your employment contract and other relevant circumstances. This process is an important part of realizing your goal of becoming a real estate agent in Mexico.
